Turning a Dream into Reality
At the 90th, deep in Israel’s Negev Desert, El wallidi Mochamed the SHEICH of the family had a dream, In his vision he saw a gathering of camel riders from across the region around a shared interest and love for the desert heritage and the camel. He wanted to creat a united community that would preserve and promote the timeless tradition of camel riding and the unique heritage of camel breeding in the Desert Negev of Israel. To be a bridge between the long past throughout an active present to the future. Between different cultures and habits in the region, To be an ambassador of peace and tolerance in our region. The Middel east.
Over the years, that vision took root and flourished. Countless races were held, numerous riders joined the cause. A proud tradition was rekindled across the desert sands by musical camel tours legendary journeys in the desert.
Then, in 2024, this grassroots initiative took a historic step forward. The Israeli Camel Riders Family formally established the non-profit organization Guardians of the Desert Heritage organization .
In collaboration with the Government of Israel, the organization launched a spectacular festival — the first official, government-endorsed camel race in the country.
This groundbreaking event gave global recognition to a movement born of passion and perseverance.
Fifty riders from across the Negev competed, and over 10,000 spectators attended. We turned a dream into reality.
Now, in 2025, following this resounding success, many new riders have joined the Israeli Camel Riders Family. The culture and heritage of camel breeding are gaining growing visibility across Israel — and beyond.
